Role Profile

We are seeking an Indirect Tax Specialist to support the organisation's VAT and Customs compliance across multiple jurisdictions.

This role is responsible for managing indirect tax reporting obligations, providing technical VAT and Customs guidance, maintaining robust compliance controls, and monitoring regulatory developments. Working collaboratively with colleagues across Finance, Legal, Supply Chain and IT, as well as external stakeholders, the successful candidate will help minimise tax risk, enhance processes, and support business growth through proactive tax analysis and compliance management.

 

This role offers flexibility to be based in either our Kilkenny office or our Dublin (Citywest) office, with hybrid working arrangements available.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, review and submit VAT returns, EC Sales Lists (ESL), Intrastat declarations and other indirect tax filings, ensuring submissions and payments are accurate and timely.
  • Prepare and reconcile VAT control accounts.
  • Conduct post-entry audits of import declarations.
  • Support tariff classification, customs origin and customs valuation activities.
  • Respond to customs broker queries as they arise.
  • Provide guidance on VAT and Customs treatment for domestic and cross-border transactions.
  • Support business stakeholders with VAT-related queries.
  • Monitor developments in VAT and Customs legislation, assess potential impacts and communicate relevant updates across the business.
  • Identify opportunities to automate and improve VAT and Customs processes.
  • Support the implementation of tax technology solutions and ERP system enhancements.
  • Assist with internal and external VAT and Customs audits.
  • Prepare audit documentation and support responses to tax authority queries.
  • Help ensure appropriate VAT controls are maintained and operating effectively.
  • Collaborate with Finance, Legal, Supply Chain and IT teams to support VAT and Customs compliance across business activities.
  • Provide VAT and Customs analysis to support new product launches, supply chain changes and market expansion initiatives.

 

What You'll Bring

  • AITI qualification (or equivalent tax qualification) with strong VAT and indirect tax knowledge.
  • Relevant VAT, Customs or indirect tax experience gained in practice or industry.
  • Good understanding of VAT legislation, including EU VAT principles and cross-border transactions.
  • Experience working with ERP systems (SAP S/4HANA experience is an advantage).
  • Strong Excel and data analysis skills.
  • Ability to identify risks, recommend improvements and support implementation of effective solutions.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical tax matters to a variety of stakeholders.
  • A collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively across multiple teams.
